Studio Fall 2007 with Carol Ross Barney

CONFLUENCE

One of the things that I found most interesting about the site and program was the complexity of elements that needed to co-exist on a single piece of land.  On one hand, the site is privately owned and operated with strict paid and unpaid areas.  On the other hand, it is located in a area where Chicago is planning for a green and public riverfront.  Additionally, the site also has to provide for a switch between various modes of transportation- bike, bus, walking, and boating.  More interesting, this all comes together at a place where industry meets the gentrified River North shopping district, at the tip of Goose Island.

The confluence of these different elements converging at a single place was my focus for this project.  The building is formed around the different paths created by the program, and becomes a junction for these activities to take place.
